In this episode of Skul the Hero Slayer, I'll be using the Minotaur with a Strike focused run, using one of the most notorious items...Veiled Mask. Minotaur is a skull I always have and always will enjoy a lot. He's a very standard power skull, and has a very simple playstyle: big hits. He has high base damage, and has very powerful skills that give him a nice AoE after he casts them underneath his feet. Minotaur is also good at every archetype I like using, such as Crit Items, Ability Spam Items, and Dash Items, so he perfectly fits around my playstyle. All of these positives, however, today I will be using him for a playstyle I tend to avoid: Strike 4. I find Strike 4 runs to be very difficult to build around, as they require so much out of the player. You have to hold your Strike inscription items, so that's minus item slots, then you need to hold crit% items to give yourself decent crit rate, so that's more item slots being taken up, and then once that's taken care of whatever item slots you have remaining need to go towards damage% scaling, since Strike is meaningless without a decent damage% backing it, and this is quite the juggling act that can leave the player feeling underwhelmed at the end of a run. However, recently one of the most notorious items in the entire game, Veiled Mask, got buffed. Before the item gave you a whopping 70% increased critical damage, but at the cost of -30% crit rate, so you had to climb out of that hole with the hope that it eventually pays off. Since 1.9.1, the -30% got changed to -20%, which at first glance isn't a humongous difference, but 10% goes a long way in Skul, and having a positive crit rate with Veiled Mask is as simple as having Misfortune if your Witch scaling is maxed. This makes Veiled Mask significantly less burdensome...so what if I took TWO Veiled Masks? Sure, it's -40%, which is worse than the old -30%, but you have a whopping 140% extra crit damage, and before this would have been -60% crit, an absolutely impossible number to overcome. If you can get past the -40%, you can theoretically make something very powerful happen here, but how does it work in practice? That's what we're here to test today, Minotaur and two Veiled Masks. Joined by Samurai, can we take an old, near impossible scenario and turn it into a winning strategy?
