Best Hand Exercise for Guitar and other Musicians as well as helpful exercise for neurological conditions (stroke, TBI, hand injuries) to improve finger dexterity and strengthen fingers. Annie Thoe, Feldenkrais Teacher teaches quick lesson to improve finger movement and how fingers connect with each other for pushing and pulling in relation to the thumb. Great guitar warm-up and piano warm-up to loosen and lighten finger movements-- instead of stretch the fingers for accurate contact and useful exercise for family and caregivers to work with conditions of stroke or TBI. This exercise is a variation of the "Bell Hand Lesson" by Moshe Feldenkrais which is done much slower to connect with the deep reflexes of flexion and extension throughout the body. Helpful for breaking tonic and hypertonic patterns of holding throughout the body, often with neurological conditions.
If you have a significant hand or brain injury-- particularly stroke or TBI, I recommend doing this lesson very slowly-- adjust the speed of the video to slow down or pause between movements to take more time to feel the bones, the sensations in the hand. The more time you give to feel these sensations, the more the brain and nervous system can improve connection with hands.
