The DDP vs Randy Savage WCW rivalry of 1997 won the PWI feud of the year and for good reason too. Dallas Page and The Macho Man squared off inside the ring in three separate pay per view matches; one at Spring Stampede, one at The Great American Bash, and the final encounter took place at Halloween Havoc. All three matches ranged from great to excellent, but the matches did more than just excite wrestling fans.


Diamond Dallas Page was still trying to break into the main event scene when he began feuding with the nWo in WCW. His match with Randy Savage at Spring Stampede would be a Page's first oppurtunity to close the show in a main event pay per view match. What's more, Randy Savage wanted to lose the match, effectively putting DDP on the map and making Page a true main eventer. Page said that before the Spring Stampede match, Savage told him and Arn Anderson "I feel like taking the Diamond Cutter tonight."

Following Spring Stampede 1997, DDP was a made man. More matches with Randy Savage would follow while Page's stock would continue to rise in World Championship Wrestling. This video looks at the entire 1997 feud and all the DDP vs Randy Savage matches that took place that year.
