The inauguration took place during her visit for the 18th convocation ceremony of the institute. In her address, President Murmu highlighted the importance of technical education and innovation, emphasizing that institutes like MNIT play a key role in making India a leader in research and technology. She also praised the increasing participation of women in STEM fields, noting that 12 out of 20 gold medals were awarded to female students during the ceremony
