(8 May 2018) There was a festive atmosphere in Yerevan on Tuesday following the election of Armenian protest leader Nikol Pashinian as the country's new prime minister.
Shortly after Armenia's parliament elected Pashinian by a 59-42 vote, he came to thank the crowds and told them he will waste no time in getting to work.
Tens of thousands gathered to watch the parliamentary proceedings on large screens on Republic Square.
His election Tuesday overcomes one hurdle in resolving the crisis, but the Republican party that he opposed retains a majority in parliament.
