ടെലിവിഷൻ ചരിത്രത്തിൽ ആദ്യമായി സംപ്രേഷണം ചെയ്യപ്പെട്ട റിവേഴ്‌സ് ക്വിസ് ഫോർമാറ്റിൽ ഉള്ള ഒരു ഇൻറ്റലകച്വൽ ഗെയിം ഷോ ആണ് അശ്വമേധം. 2001 ഇൽ കൈരളി ചാനലിൽ സംപ്രേഷണം ചെയ്തു തുടങ്ങിയ അശ്വമേധം എന്ന ആശയത്തിൻ്റെ സ്രഷ്ടാവും, പരിപാടിയുടെ അവതാരകനായ ഗ്രാൻഡ്മാസ്റ്ററും തിരുവനന്തപുരം സ്വദേശിയായ ഡോ. ജി എസ്‌ പ്രദീപ് ആണ്.

ഗെയിമിൽ പങ്കെടുക്കുന്ന വ്യക്തി/മത്സരാർത്ഥി മനസ്സിൽ ഓർമ്മിക്കുന്ന ഒരാളെ 21 യെസ് ഓർ നോ ചോദ്യങ്ങളുടെ ഉത്തരങ്ങളിലൂടെ കണ്ടെത്തുക എന്ന ദൗത്യമാണ് ഗ്രാൻഡ്മാസ്റ്റർ അഥവാ ഷോ മാസ്റ്ററുടേത്. ഗ്രാൻഡ്മാസ്റ്ററുടെ ചോദ്യങ്ങൾക്ക് അതേ/അല്ല എന്ന ഉത്തരങ്ങൾ ആവും മത്സരാർത്ഥി നൽകുക. ഗ്രാൻഡ്മാസ്റ്ററുടെ ഏതെങ്കിലും ചോദ്യം മനസ്സിലാവാതെ വരികയോ.., മത്സരാർത്ഥിക്ക് മനസ്സിൽ വിചാരിച്ച വ്യക്തിയെക്കുറിച്ചുള്ള കൃത്യമായ സൂചനകൾ ഓർത്തെടുക്കാൻ പറ്റാതെ വരികയോ ചെയ്‌താൽ മത്സരാർത്ഥി ജൂറിയുടെ സഹായം തേടി ഗെയിമിൽ മുന്നേറുന്നു. ആദ്യത്തെ പത്തു ചോദ്യങ്ങൾ ഉൾപ്പെടുന്ന റൌണ്ട് 'യാഗം' എന്നും പിന്നീടുള്ള അഞ്ചു ചോദ്യങ്ങൾ ഉൾപ്പെടുന്ന റൌണ്ട് 'യജ്ഞം' എന്നും തുടർന്നുള്ള ചോദ്യങ്ങൾ ഉൾപ്പെടുന്ന റൌണ്ട് 'രാജസൂയം' എന്നും അറിയപ്പെടുന്നു.

Ashwamedham is an intellectual game show, first aired in 2001 on Kairali TV in a reverse quiz format, making it a pioneering concept in the history of television. Dr. G.S. Pradeep, a native of Thiruvananthapuram, "the Grandmaster" is both the creator of the concept and the host of the show.
The role of the Grandmaster is to identify the personality the contestant has in mind by asking up to 21 yes-or-no questions. Each contestant responds with either "Yes" or "No" to the Grandmaster's inquiries. If the Grandmaster struggles to interpret the answers or if the contestant cannot recall specific clues, the Jury may assist. The rounds are structured as follows: the first 10 questions form the 'Yagam' round, the next 5 make up the 'Yajnam' round, and the final set is the 'Rajasuyam' round.
