Original airdate: 5/30/2020 | Hundreds of people in Allentown and Bethlehem on Saturday joined in demonstrations across the nation demanding justice for George Floyd.
He died Monday in police custody in Minnesota. Bystander video captured an officer kneeling on Floyd's neck. It happened after police confronted him for allegedly passing a phony $20 bill to buy cigarettes and then allegedly not cooperating with officers' orders. Floyd pleaded that he could not breathe from the officer's restraint before he became unresponsive. He died later at the hospital. That former Minneapolis Police Officer, Lt. Derek Chauvin, is now charged with murder and manslaughter.
Protesters in both Allentown and Bethlehem showed up in droves to show support of the Black Lives Matter movement at separate demonstrations. Organizers say change can start here in the Lehigh Valley.
