The Wilhelmus, everyone can sing along with a few lines, but what are we actually singing? A propaganda song from the time when the Netherlands were still a patchwork of separate regions that only wanted one thing: to retain their autonomy. In the Eighty Years' War against the Spanish lord, nowadays called the Revolt, there was no question of a Netherlands of its own. But it was the outcome. This episode focuses on the Wilhelmus and Marnix van Sint-Aldegonde, author and mayor of Antwerp. Speakers include writer Tom Lanoye and music scientist Louis Grijp.
