Hurrem Sultan
Born in Ruthenia (then an eastern region of the Kingdom of Poland), Hurrem was captured by Crimean Tatars during a slave raid and eventually taken to Istanbul, the Ottoman capital. She entered the Imperial Harem, rising through the ranks to become the favourite of Sultan Suleiman. Breaking with Ottoman tradition, Suleiman married Hurrem, making her his legal wife. She was the first imperial consort to receive the title Haseki Sultan. Hurrem remained in the Sultan's court for the rest of her life and had six children with him, including the future Sultan Selim II. She was the grandmother of Murad III.
Kösem Sultan
She is generally said to be of Greek origin, the daughter of a priest on the island of Tinos whose maiden name was Anastasia, but these views do not seem reliable.[1] She was kidnapped from her home town and bought as a slave by the Bosnian Beylerbey, and sent, at the age of fifteen, to the harem of Sultan Ahmed I. Upon her conversion to Islam, her name was changed to Mahpeyker ("Moon-Faced" in Persian, meaning "beautiful"), and later by Sultan Ahmed I to Kösem, meaning "leader of the herd", indicating Kösem's leadership and political intelligence. Kösem was known for mastering many languages , including Greek (her native language) , Italian and eventually Ottoman Turkish. Watch full video fore more.
