TEXT FROM THE HOMILY
This is a very powerful story. It's a story actually for each and every one of us. And I'm going to start, we sometimes find ourselves in our own tombs, I don't know about you but if you've ever experienced deep depression or if you've ever felt hopeless it can be a tomb. It can feel like everything is closing in on around you and you don't know where to go. For some of our viewers, I don't know, sometimes even with health issues that you're facing, a health issue or you're waiting for that doctor's report, that seems like forever and it may even feel a hopeless or desperate situation. We can be in our tombs but I want to also remind you Jesus loved Lazarus. Jesus loves all of us. He's with us. He never gave up, he was going towards us, towards those tombs of ours. And he wants us to rise out of those tombs, he wants us to have that hope. He wants us and reminds us that he is always with us. But he also kept reminding Martha do you believe. Do you believe that's part of it, my friends? In those tombs it’s very hard, it's very cold, it's very dark. It's lonely but again, Jesus is turning to each and every one of us, do you believe? And if each of us says, “I believe Lord. I believe you are the resurrection. I believe you are the life. I believe in you!” Those tombs can be emptied. We can come forth from those tombs. What a difference it does make when the doctor finally calls. What a difference it makes when you have a family member or a friend who is beside you. What a difference it makes when you know you are supported, that you're not alone. You're not going through this situation by yourself. And sometimes even with support groups you discover, guess what? We're all in the same boat. We all face our own tombs. We all have our moments. And Jesus calls us forth. This Sunday I'm going to invite all of us to spend some time with the Lord. He loves us just as he loved Lazarus. He's calling us forth out of those tombs to be with him but we need to believe. To change our lives to embrace his way his gospel. To love him. As we gather, I hope that those who are really experiencing that tomb, that this day you can say Lord, call me forth, bring me out of this tomb and make my life different.
