The rotator cuff muscle on the back of the shoulder (infraspinatus and teres minor) is often very weak and can be a source of pain in the shoulder and can even create some referral pain down the side of the arm. This video demonstrates how to massage it on someone else.
It is a very tender muscle so it doesn’t need much pressure. Massaging this area can make the shoulder feel much better TEMPORARILY, but in order to make any long-term changes to your pain, it will be best to follow up a massage with some strengthening of the shoulder.
To watch more of our shoulder videos, you can find them on our channel in the "Shoulder" playlist or type in “rotator cuff strengthening exercises” in Google. These have been done a billion times… rotate the arm outward to strengthen the rotator cuff that Mike is massaging in this video.
If you find that you have to constantly stretch or massage a muscle, it is time to try strengthening it. Often times, this can resolve the issue. If you just want a little rub down, then have someone massage this muscle for you. We will show you how to do it on your own next week.
