This is stage F-C - Wherever - with the Sexy Dynamite on R-Typer difficulty. Played on Score Attack.
About this ship:
This is a Bydo style ship. According to the R-Museum, the pilot is entirely encased is a jelly like substance in the cockpit that enhances neural transmission and allows the pilot to control their weapons and ship by thought alone. The Force lasers on this ship are excellent, with red firing four continuous lasers that change angles depending on whether the Sexy Force is open or closed. The beams cross when opened completely, giving great coverage. The blue weapon is extremely short range, but very powerful when attacking. The yellow weapon fires tear drop shaped lasers that arc outward towards the top and bottom of the screen. When detached, the Sexy Force will windmill towards an enemy while you fire, and do damage by proximity. The Sexy Force charges its Delta weapon insanely fast, even on R-Typer, while you do this. It does not fire while detached. The wave cannon is a two loop charge that peels a piece of the cockpit off of the ship and shoots it out. It is very slow, and care must be taken against faster enemies. It is quite powerful if it hits.
Pros:
+ Red laser is continuous and firing angles cross when open. You can cover pretty much the whole screen with this weapon.
+ Blue laser is very powerful even though it is short range.
+ Sexy Force homes in on enemies when detached and you are shooting.
+ The Sexy Force charges exceptionally fast whether absorbing bullets or detached and striking enemies. This is true even on R-Typer, where the Delta weapon's charge is slowed down.
+ This is one of the few ships capable of taking on F-C.
Cons:
- Wave cannon is very slow and care must be taken against fast moving targets.
- Red weapon will not fire if tentacles are retracted by being too close to an enemy or the environment.
Ships in this series:
Sexy Dynamite, Sexy Dynamite II
Ship series note:
Both ships in this series use the same Force. The only difference is that Sexy Dynamite II gets an extra loop on the wave cannon.
Stage note:
This stage has you traveling through time from 2163, the beginning of R-Type, to 2501. The Bydo were created in the 26th century. R-Type Final takes place 20 years after the original R-Type according to the Japanese instruction manual. I would guess that upon killing Fine Motion in stage 5.0, you get thrown into 6.2, and then ejected into 2163, where you begin time traveling to the 26th century. Stage 5.0 is supposed to be a dimensional shortcut that will put a pilot in any dimension or time. Depending on how you kill Fine Motion, you can end up in one of three different variations of stage 6 dependent on whether or not you destroyed the red or blue pegs, or none at all.
Did you know:
The laser turrets are called Bats. The ships that fire the lasers that bend 90 degree angles are called Photon Dorney. Both enemies are from Irem's 1988 vertical scrolling shoot em up Image Fight. They appear in the game's penalty stage. The same game features the OF Daedalus, which appears in R-Type Final.
Personal note:
This stage has no boss. The only thing that can be tough about it is how long it is. You need to bring a ship that can handle that continuous wave of green Surge Bydo near the end. There is almost nothing more disheartening than getting that far and dying, an experience I've had more than once in the past. It really sucks to waste eight or nine minutes of your life and failing that way. You only get one life in this stage no matter how many you came in with, so there's no messing around if you want to win. As it is, those spawning bays of the green Surge Bydo near the middle before that gate leading to the Cancer onslaught almost got me, but their bullets did not strike my hit box as I kept pushing ahead. Still, a few close calls in this stage. Thrilling, isn't it?
