So I purchased my 2015 4 series Gran Coupe from the dealership back in 2015 brand spanking new and shipped from Germany. I even picked it up at South Carolina at the BMW Performance Center Delivery. I've been on top of all the oil changes and had no major issues for the past 6 years. Until my independent car shop warned me about the N20 engines blowing up from the timing chain guide. Then I received a legal class action lawsuit letter in the mail. I was at 77K miles when I received the letter and procrastination pushed it now to 82K miles. I want to keep the car for atleast another 3-4yrs and fixing that timing chain guide would be a piece of mind. I was going to buy extended auto warranty until I heard all the horror stories. I then contacted BMW NA and told them I was passed the 7yrs/77K miles extended warranty and this timing chain worries me alot. They are fully aware of the n20 timing chain issue and asked me to bring the car back to the dealership to get checked out. I took my car in on 3/3 and they service advisor told me the timing chain is loose. He put me on a new 2021 BMW 330 loaner. I got a call back that late afternoon and it would cost $6800^ in the repairs. The did contact BMW NA and they were willing to work with me 55%-45%. I agreed on the 45% @ $2800. I was planning on writing it up on the class action lawsuit and get reinbursed back, but the dealership came back and warranty the repairs. I was shocked and speechless!!
