Denture care for nursing staff (CNA, RN, LPN). This video demonstrates how to clean dentures in the hospital setting.
As a nurse you will have to provide denture care. Dentures are typically removed and cleaned in between meals and right before bedtime.
When providing denture care the nurse should take care to not damage the dentures because they are very expensive to replace and to take steps that prevent the dentures from becoming lost.
Supplies needed to provide denture care include: denture cup (be sure to label the cup with the patient's information), emesis basin (also called kidney basin), towels and paper towels, denture cleaning paste (note toothpaste should be avoided if possible, especially the types that contain whiteners because this can damage the teeth), soft bristle toothbrush/denture brush, and gloves.
