Day 2 of my holiday on Britain's popular heritage railway The North Yorkshire Moors Railway
On today's program we see the final day of there Wartime Weekend.
On today's agenda we travel behind 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley 1 way only as this was to be my final trip behind Sir Nigel on the NYMR before he gets withdrawn from service next year as its 10 year boiler ticket will expire in October 2015.
I will bring you another trip behind Sir Nigel on another Heritage Railway but that is another story.
60007 put in a fine performance and I have to say it was allot more better than when Rodger Barker drove sir nigel last year.
We have a bit of time at Pickering were we join 5029 Nunney Castle for the run back to Grosmont were the train was packed well it is the NYMR's busiest train during a event which can't be helped.
Soon we arrived back into Grosmont were we have time at Grosmont before we have another run up to behind 5029 Nunney Castle for the final round trip of the day from Grosmont to Pickering and return.
The castle put in a brilliant performance especially attacking the 1 in 49 grade to Goathland then onto the summit at Moorgates. We proceeded onto the next station at Levisham were Sir Nigel passes us before we resume the final straight to Pickering before we arrive at our destination. We stay on the train for the trip back to Grosmont with another twist the journey was top an tailed with 5029 leading the train with the Lamberton tank 29 joined the train after finishing on the shuttle services between Pickering and Levisham.
We depart from Pickering back for home at Grosmont. We soon arrive at the end of the line were we finish seeing 5029 Nunney Castle and 29 leave for the sheds.
The war event was a brilliant success conditions were brilliant and the locos were fantastic with 2 Great Western locos in action and a A4 what more can you want. Lets hope its the same next year.
Coming up in Day 3
A vegging day at Grosmont.
