1. You must market consistently. The goal of marketing is NOT to get a sale, it’s to keep your brand top of mind.
2. STOP discounting your menu! That is the number one thing restaurants do to drive sales when they hit a slow period! Business cycles fluctuate!
What goes up must come down and then it goes back up again. Don’t freak out and start giving out coupons or discounts.
3. Focus more on profits than sales. I know that sounds counterintuitive but it’s the secret to real restaurant success. It’s not how much you make. It’s how much you keep that matters!
4. Stop tolerating poor-performing team members. Contrary to popular opinion…there isn’t a labor shortage! We don’t have a labor problem. What we have is a cultural problem!
For years restaurants have gotten by with hazing, yelling, paying people low wages, working them horrendous hours with few breaks, no benefits, and massive turnover!
We’ve become a real-life version of Hell’s Kitchen! It’s not that people don’t want to work.
The question is why don’t they want to work with you?
