A lot of times what I’ve found is that the full bore performance versions of these sporty SUVs are a whisper too far
The suspension is overdamped, the steering is too fast, etc
SO a lot of times, the mid-grade performance trims are the sweet spot
I think that’s whats happening here
This GLC43 gets a 3.0TTv6 making 385 hp and 384 lbft. Is it a handbuilt AMG engine? No. Is it a V8? No. But it’s got 4matic AWD and it’s still quick and still packs plenty of drama
One of my favorite things about these Mercedes AMGs is the gearbox
Sure you don’t get the V8 rumble that you would in the 63, but the cracks you get on shift and the pops you get on lift-off give PLENTY of drama
And it still makes some pretty good noises
So this GLC43 is quick and sharp, but it does more than just go in a straight line. The chassis is nice and solid, this one comes with adaptive air ride, and the steering is sharp with decent feeling from the Goodyear Eagle summer tires
Not only that, but you get upgraded brakes
The tip in is good
The chassis stays flat with the air suspension
I can feel the front tires through the wheel
And the power is easy to roll on without upsetting the balance
So ,much like the C43, the lightness of the v6 gives the car a lighter and more athletic personality. But this is a Benz so what’s the other side of the badge like?
Even dialed back into comfort mode this GLC stays pretty stiff
It’s not going to beat you up, but it does remind you that you bought the sporty one
But the rest of the experience is really nice
It’s quiet
Power is smooth
The cabin is quiet and feels solid
Visibility is good
And ultimately, it still feels like a Mercedes
This GLC gracefully blurs the lines between sport and luxury so let’s step outside so I can show you what I mean
