Gas before clutch or clutch before gas
If you are having problems with slow starts from a stop with your manual transmission car where you are spending a lot of time trying to accelerate from a stop try getting rid of the dead space in the clutch pedal. This is where you bring your foot up just under the bite point getting rid of the distance in the pedal where nothing is happening before you give gas. Then you give you gas say for example 1500 rpm and then bring up your clutch to the bite or engagement point. The clutch will bite/engage much quicker and the car will start to move much quicker vs working your clutch pedal up from the floor. When you bring your clutch pedal up if it bites slightly that is ok but if it bites and the car starts to move that is where you know you are bringing the pedal up too far. You don't want to go too deep into the engagement point because then the car is always on the edge of stalling. Getting rid if the dead space is very helpful on cars with worn clutches or high engagement points.
If you are wondering why not bring it to the bite point every time? The answer for that is because everyone is different and some may be able to bring it to right at the bite point but many will not and end up stalling and getting frustrated when they go too far into the engagement. Just bringing it under the bite point gives room for error of the clutch foot without having to worry about stalling it. By just using the flick instead of having to think about the bite point it is one less thing for you to have to think about doing perfectly. Once you get comfortable you can start playing around with that flick making it faster and larger.
