What is isothermal humidification?
There are basically three physical methods of air humidification:
Vaporization, evaporation and atomization. The essential difference between these methods lies in the fact that air in adiabatic methods is cooled down. However, the air remains the same in case of steam humidification.
To be exact, steam needs no extra energy to enter into the air state since it is already gaseous. By contrast, water preserves its state. It requires energy in order to carry out a change from a liquid to a gaseous state and draws this energy from the surrounding air. As a result, the air in an adiabatic humidification process cools off by a certain amount.
In contrast to evaporation, air temperature essentially remains constant if steam is used to humidify air.
Steam humidification can be technically realized through devices such as an electrode steam humidifier, a gas-fired steam humidifier or a resistance steam humidifier.
