I was going through a really hard time awhile back. I had some friends who knew a/b it & sent me this song. I put on my headphones & played it on repeat for hours on end, & still do on occasion, b/c it has become a therapeutic tool that helps me put things back in perspective & makes me feel better.
Yesterday I found out those friends, who are like my family, are going through a tough time themselves. And I’m not there. And that’s hard for me.
So I decided I would sing this song for them because it’s the best way I know how to be there for them. And I believe, especially in hard times, the people you love have a responsibility to remind you that you are not alone & this too shall pass.
Mental health in general is something I believe this country puts on the back burner. It’s definitely reflected in the structure of our health care systems in so many ways. We have come a long way I think from when I was a kid where people in my hometown thought going to a counselor or therapist meant you had serious mental illness & you must be crazy.
If you do happen to think that I would like to tell you that’s ok this is not a place of judgement. I just want to share with you that myself & so many of my friends & family, who are fortunate not to have a serious mental illness, are a true testaments to the healing, growth & self actualization that therapy & counseling can provide. It literally changes the course of your life. It challenges your paradigm to then be able to walk more fully on the path you want to have for yourself.
Everyone deserves counseling- especially you
Trauma is relative- pain is pain and if you’ve lived long enough you have it
I suggest taking 15-30min intro sessions with 3-5 therapists to find the one that fits you best
Some resources for affordable therapy below:
1. (Nashville #1) If you and a recording artist both you & your family can receive free counseling at @porterscall in Franklin, TN. I can personally attest as well as several of my friends, on the amazing service they provide to artists.
2. (Nashville #2) If you aren’t a recording artist The Estuary has been an amazing refuge for us in the past & we worked with a counselor in training at a very reasonable rate- researching this in your area could be a very helpful tool.
3. (Online) BetterHelp.com is rated one of the top online counseling services for $65 unlimited care a week
Feel free to comment below on other places and/or organizations you would suggest in any area.
