(15 Oct 2015) Dozens protested on Thursday outside the United Nations mission office in Haiti's capital, blaming the organisation for bringing the cholera epidemic to the country and asking it to provide reparations to the victims.
Protesters held up posters and chanted "we are calling for justice and reparations" while gathered around the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH) in Port-Au-Prince.
This month marks the fifth year anniversary of the cholera epidemic that broke out about 10 months after the 2010 earthquake.
Since October 2010, cholera has killed roughly 9,000 Haitians and sickened hundreds of thousands more.
Scientific papers have suggested there is ample evidence to show that U.N. peacekeepers from Nepal inadvertently brought cholera to Haiti after human waste was dumped in the country's biggest river.
