Agatha Christie, born on September 15, 1890, in Torquay, Devon, England, is renowned as the "Queen of Crime." Christie's most famous fictional detectives, Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple, have become iconic figures in mystery literature. Her novel "And Then There Were None" is one of the best-selling books of all time, with around 100 million copies sold (Agatha Christie).
Christie's career began in earnest with the publication of "The Mysterious Affair at Styles" in 1920, featuring Poirot. Despite a rocky start with multiple rejections, this book set the stage for her prolific output (Wikipedia). Her works are characterized by their intricate plots and clever twists, often drawing from her experiences working in hospital dispensaries during both World Wars, where she gained a thorough knowledge of poisons (Encyclopedia Britannica).
Christie's personal life saw its share of drama. In 1926, after her mother’s death and her husband Archibald Christie's request for a divorce, she famously disappeared for eleven days, leading to widespread media speculation.
