Saint Manikkavāsagar is the author of Thiruvāsagam of which Śivapurānam is the first part. The famous saying: "He whose heart is not melted by Thiruvāsagam cannot be melted by any vāsagam (saying)" reminds us of the highly devotional nature of this crucial work.
This sacred chant is a very potent way to reach Mahādev and is said to have been written by Nandi Himself; a pure Tamil hymn to Lord Śiva was desired and this great hymn is the result.
It is the only divine hymn that begins with "Namah Shivāya" which is at the center of the vedic pillar and powerhouse, Śrī Rudram.
The script is provided in English for students who cannot read Tamil.
Audio features Śrī Caitanyananda Nātha Saraswati (Śrī Haran Aiya) of the Śrī Rajarajeshwari Pīṭam and one of the many talented students at the temple. This is a Live recording (edited slightly) of a performance during the conclusion of the weekly Kalasam Puja and before final Abhisekham to the Deities.
