Basel Sharaf, M.D., D.D.S. (plastic surgery) and Lilly Wagner, M.D. (oculoplastic surgery) are starting a new multidisciplinary clinic at Mayo Clinic to help patients with orbital and facial fractures that develop post-traumatic deformities, such as a sunken eye (enophthalmos) or double vision (diplopia) related to the fractures. In this multi-specialty clinic plastic surgeons and orbital surgeons work together to provide the best care for patients. The use of virtual surgical planning and 3D printing helps in tailoring each treatment for each patient. Patient-specific models are generated with 3D printing to design implants needed in reconstructing eye socket or facial fractures. The surgeons employ several state of the art technologies from 3D printing, to intra-operative navigation and imaging when needed to improve safety. Through the Oculofacial Plastics Clinic, patients with eye socket or facial trauma are evaluated in a single day by an orbital surgeon and a plastic surgeon, and other specialists in ENT and Neurosurgery are consulted if needed. The direct appointment line for oculoplastics is 507-538-5290.
