The eastern Ukrainian city of Luhansk has come under sustained assault from pro-Russian separatists.
Hundreds of armed activists have attacked a border command centre, with at least five killed during fighting with Ukrainian guards.
Meanwhile, Russia has accused the country's government of committing crimes against its own people - and has asked the UN to help bring about an immediate ceasefire.
