All eyes are on the future King of Belgium, following the announcement by his father, Albert II, that he was abdicating the throne.
At a press conference, Prince Philippe told reporters he knows he has big shoes to fill: "I am fully aware of the responsibilities that I have. I will continue to invest myself with all my heart."
On the streets of Brussels, people seemed confident of the future king's ability to do the job. One local woman said: "I think he will be able to do good things, to well represent Belgium on the national and international stages."
Journalist and Royal specialist, Thomas de Bergeyck, told euronews he believes the Prince will rise to the challenge: "I expect him to adjust very quickly to his soverign role. He is far better prepared than his father, Albert II in 1993. At the time we were going through the fourth reform of the State; it was the birth of the communities and regions, Belgium was turning into a real federal state. This has now been going on for 20 years so Prince Philippe has had time to get used to it."
