Akira Kobayashi
A world-renowned Latinfont designer, known as the “No. 1 in Latin Font Design” in Japan. He graduated from the Major of Visual Communication Design of Musashino Art University in Japan. From 1983 to 1989, hewas engaged in font design in Sha-Ken Co., Ltd.; he went to London in 1989 to study calligraphy and typography for about a year and a half. Afterhis return to Japan in 1990, he entered Jiyu-Kobo, Ltd. and engaged in the production of Japanese fonts Hiragino Series. In 2001, hewas appointed as Font Design Director of Germany’s Linotype GmbH(the company was reorganized as Monotype GmbH in 2013) and settled in Germany. While being a frequent speaker at fontdesign workshops in Europe, Americas and Asia, he has also served as a judge in international font design competitions.
