I decided to go back to my first video and improve it, mainly by editing in the actual DVD footage and not the potato recordings of the original. Also, sorry if the footage in the censored cut is of a lower volume, that's just how it sounded as I was making this re-edit.
ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION [With minor Alterations]:
During the latter half of the 20th century, many episodes of the Clokey Productions classic, Davey and Goliath, were banned from the airwaves. They were still released on VHS (With exceptions, such as 'The Polka Dot Tie', and 'The Gang' (AKA 'The Jickets')), and they are available on DVD and Christian media sites. Religious YouTube channel EncourageTV also has all the episodes, making things very convenient for those who want to watch it.
However, in 2007 came a controversial release called "Davey and Goliath: The Lost Episodes". This release had all the episodes pulled from the airwaves many years ago. There was a catch, however. A few episodes were edited to remove content that was deemed too politically incorrect for Christian TV. A few seconds of a naked Davey skinny-dipping were excised from "Down on the Farm", 'Ten Little Indians' was renamed 'Ten Pin Alley', references to negative Native American stereotypes were removed from "Pilgrim Boy", among others. Some episodes remained unedited, such as "The Polka Dot Tie", "The Jickets" c[A.K.A. The Gang], etc.
This video highlights a scene from one of the edited episodes, "Cousin Barney", in which Davey, Sally, Barney and Goliath play a game of Cowboys and Indians, only for it to abruptly end when Barney's face gets covered with wet paint. The scene remains intact on several VHS releases and on a 2000 Davey and Goliath DVD by Image Entertainment, where I found the clip. It was only when the episodes were restored in 2005 that this scene began disappearing from the airwaves and from home media. I first show the unedited scene, as it appears on the 2000 DVD, and then the cut down version of the scene from current (post-2005) releases. The cutdown makes Barney's walking behind the chair seem without purpose.
This video is not uploaded to offend anyone, it is only for historical and entertainment purposes. It is meant to show what types of entertainment were done in the mid 20th Century, and people from our generation can reflect, and see if they think the scene is offensive, or if taking it out was a bad idea. It is also to show a rare piece of television history that otherwise may be forgotten by time. I do not claim any rights whatsoever to Davey and Goliath, all rights are held by Bridgestone Multimedia Group, The Evangelical Lutheran Church of America and Premavision Studios.
