General thoughts
I was first introduced to his thought my reading an autobiography written by George Woodcock. After finishing this book, my general opinion was that his position seems inconsolable to my own. I proceeded to read a book which was a selection of writings from Proudhon himself. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that his political philosophy is more closely aligned to my own position. Also I was extremely impressed by some of the originality of his ideas.
My initial prognosis was that he’s emphasis on mutual exchange was cold and uninspiring. I haven't completely abandoned this analysis of his work however it is clear that it is not as straightforward as I first thought.
This essay has been written from a collection of notes written directly from a selection of his writings. Therefore there is always the risk of a mistranslation of his ideas. But I have tried my utmost to fully flesh out his ideas therefore giving them greater resonance.
