Let’s instead look at what modern medicine can offer for osteoarthritis. I like to look at it as a two-step approach. First, we need to get you and your knee or hip out of that pro-inflammatory state. Then, we need to rebuild the joint and try to repair the damage.

PRP, or platelet-rich plasma, is a treatment to try to rebuild the damaged cartilage and bone. We draw up a small amount of blood and spin in it a centrifuge to remove the red and white blood cells, leaving the platelets with growth factors. PRP has been shown to increase cell growth, proliferation, and differentiation, promote angiogenesis, or the development of new blood vessels, to bring nutrients to the healing tissue, and augment bone regeneration and remodeling.
