This fountain overlooking the city was commissioned by Pope Paulo V Borghese. It served as an aqueduct to deliver water into the city. Its curves and fluidity are representative of the Baroque style. Marble used in the construction of the fountain was recycled from the Roman Forum in Ancient Rome, and its columns were recycled from St. Peter’s Basilica. The inscription hanging over the fountain was written by Pope Paul, praising himself for bringing water to the residents. Embellishments of the family’s emblems of dragons and eagles can also be seen.
