7 month baby sleep training tips
Tip 1:
The first place to start is by starting a peaceful nightly ritual. It’s more than a bedtime routine. It’s a series of activities you do every evening that help relax your child and settle him down for sleep. They really work! You really watch your child settle on cue. And the more consistent you are, the more you do it every single night in the same order, then you watch your little one respond so well because they understand. Even if it’s a young baby, their bodies and brains understand that it’s time to sleep.
The majority of sleep are ready for sleep around the same time each evening. In my Exhausted Mom’s Starter Kit a huge step that we go through is finding the ideal bedtime for your child.

Tip 2: Stick to the recommended awake times
Awake times for a 7 month old baby are 2-3 hours. I’d be watching your baby and casually looking for him to show sleepy signs. When I saw them, I’d give him the opportunity to nap.
That includes subtle signs like his activity slowing down, his energy slowing down, losing interest in his toys and in you. Zoning out. These are subtle signs, but they’re definitely sleepy signs.
More obvious signs include fussiness, he withdraws, he might rub his eyes or have puffy, dark or red eyes. These are more obvious signs. If you see these signs, get your baby to sleep right away.
If you know your nap window is coming up, prepare for it 15 minutes in advance. If you’re at home, take baby in his bedroom, change his diaper, read a book, sing a lullaby. If he hasn’t eaten in more than 30 minutes, give him a quick feed. And give baby the opportunity to fall asleep within that time frame.
Tip 3: Wake your baby at the same time every morning
I know that sounds insane! This can really lead to more consistency and predictability to your days which a lot of moms crave.
Write down for the next 7-10 days the time your baby wakes up in the morning. After 1-2 weeks you’ll see a pattern come out.
Once you’ve done the above steps and you’ve got a rhythm to your baby’s days and you have sleep routines that relax him and settle him down, and now you’re ready to take the next step and reduce his night wakings- then you need to teach your baby to fall asleep on his own.
You can do quick method, a slow method- it depends on your baby’s temperament, age, your parenting style, how much time you have, how much energy you have. This is what I walk parents through in my 21 Days to Peace and Quiet program. I give parents a range of methods and I help parents pick a method.
