American Heart of Poland (Polsko Amerykańskie Kliniki Serca) are the net of interventional cardiology, angiology and cardiosurgery departments in Poland. In 2000 the Clinics were established on the initiative of outstanding doctors from Poland and the United States of America. Over the past 12 years of their activity, due, among others, to huge potential, renown of outstanding team of doctors and guarantee of admitting the patients, American Heart of Poland Clinics became highly estimated and known departments -- not only in Poland.

At present, PAKS have 20 fully equipped facilities, including cardiosurgery departments (with a hybrid operating room that is unique in Poland). PAKS departments (offering fully equipped single and double rooms) are located in Ustroń, Bielsko-Biała, Dąbrowa Górnicza, Kędzierzyn-Koźle, Starachowice, Mielec, Polanica Zdrój, Nysa, Tychy, Chrzanów, Rzeszów and Bełchatów. In these centres the substantive activities are carried under the direction of Paweł Buszman, MD, PhD and the supervision of cardiosurgical consultations is exercised by Andrzej Bochenek, MD, PhD. PAKS employ experienced specialists, coming from renowned medical centres. Both the doctors and nurse and technical teams are highly qualified professionals.

The wards are on duty 24-hours a day for patients with various forms of acute coronary syndromes, including acute myocardial infarction, enabling their treatment with use of percutaneous coronary angioplasty (PCI), which considerably shortens delay in myocardial infarction treatment and makes a key factor for treatment success (decline in mortality level in case of myocardial infarction from 30 to 3%).

The patients from whole Poland are admitted to PAKS departments also as patients scheduled for diagnostic procedures such as coronarography and angiography and for therapeutic procedures such as coronary and peripheral arteries angioplasty, aterectomies, percutaneous procedures of aortal and mitral valvulopasty, and non-invasive treatment of thoracic aorta aneurysm by stent graft and implantation of cardiac stimulating system or cardioverters -- defibrillators.

The services provided in the clinics are realized based on the contracts covered by agreement with National Health Fund or privately. The backup of hospital treatment are specialistic outpatient clinics, among others in Katowice, Ustroń and in Wrocław. In addition, the clinics have modern laboratories enabling heart and vessels imaging (equipped with multi-sliced computer tomography and magnetic resonance) in Oleśnica, Ustroń, Dąbrowa Górnicza, Chrzanów, Rzeszów and Starachowice.
