Sir James Martin CBE DSc CEng FIMechE FRAeS (11 September 1893 – 5 January 1981) was a Northern Irish engineer.
Ejector seat inventor James Martin from Crossgar along with pilot Valentine Baker founded the world famous Martin-Baker Ejector seat Company. To date the various ejector seats they preducesd have save 7500 pilot lives. the company runs world wide and is a world beater. A brilliant engineer, in 1924, aged only 29, he set up the Martin Baker Aircraft Company in England along with his friend, Captain Valentine Baker. The idea for the ejector seat came after Baker died in an accident whilst testing one of the Martin Baker aircraft.
