Dr. Ailawadi, M.D., the Chair of Cardiac Surgery at Michigan Medicine, specializes in minimally invasive valve surgery as well as complex cardiac operations. This video shows step-by-step footage of a mitral valve replacement with a Sapien 3 balloon expandable valve for a calcified mitral annulus using a mini thoracotomy approach. In this case, portions of the anterior leaflet and calcified papillary muscles were resected to create more space for the replacement valve and prevent LV outflow track obstruction and a felt landing zone was created to minimize paravalvular leak.
