Lesson 27 of A Course in Miracles is an invitation to reaffirm our commitment to remembering what we are in truth, and accepting the effects of that identity. We are affirming our commitment to Love and to reality.
It is also an opportunity to look at our resistance to the course and to the healing it offers us. Why does the offer of perfect happiness feel like it involves sacrifice? Why are we afraid of unity? Of God and Love?
These questions do not injure our standing as creations of a loving God. They do not render God's gift of perfect peace conditional. They are merely the flailing of ego as it senses its dissolution and fights for its survival. We lose nothing when we lose ego - or rather, we lose confusion and pain. We lose isolation and guilt.
Thus, this early ACIM lesson is both a chance to declare again our commitment to remembering what we are in truth and a means of examining - and becoming willing to see undone - our resistance to that remembrance. Truth is true; we can ignore it, deny it and argue with it all day but we cannot make it untrue. Love is love; we can ignore it, deny it and argue with it all day but we cannot make it hate.
We have found the better way. We have reached the site of healing. Are we ready to give ourselves over to it?
