The Famous Bee-Man
A Nepali beekeeper has demonstrated his extraordinary resilience to bees - by covering himself in 30,000 of them. Surya Prasad Lamichhane loves his honey-making friends so much he allows them to settle on his face and chest - happily taking the piercing pain of their stings.
The 34-year-old beekeeper from Kaski, Nepal, astounds his workers and villagers when he sits with the cloak made of approximately 30,000 bees that stretch down from his head to chest for as long as two hours. His incredible feat of endurance has made him popular in the tiny village. And Prasad who calls his pets the ‘bee friends’, is now eyeing a Guinness World Record for being covered in bees for the longest time.
Prasad applies honey on his head, face and chest to attract the swarm and has a trick for calming the bees. He said: “Honey attracts bees. They start sticking to my body. As they grow in numbers, I stand as still as possible. That is my trick to keep these bees calm. I have made a special bond with them and understand they only hurt when agitated.”
