Summary of the April 11, 2019 Weatherford College Board of Trustees Meeting:

Mike Endy, vice president of instruction and student services, provided a demand study report including information on the creation of a robotics event at WC Wise County on May 9. The event organizer will conduct a coding workshop and WC will survey participants regarding their interest in additional coding opportunities.
Dr. Andra Cantrell, executive vice president for financial and administrative affairs, updated the board on Guided Pathways. College leaders will attend the next Guided Pathways Institute on April 24-26 in San Antonio. The topic of the institute is “ensuring students are learning.”
Adam Finley, executive dean of student services, gave his monthly report “using numbers with heart” to highlight the new partnership with the Wesley Foundation resulting in the relocation and expansion of the Coyote Closet to the Methodist student center adjacent to the Weatherford campus.
Endy also provided the board with an update on the proposed veterinarian technician program which includes a partnership with the Weatherford/Parker County Animal Shelter. Most recently, college and city attorneys have worked on an interlocal agreement and discussed the necessary instructional technology.

After a closed session, the board voted in open session to give Dr. Tod Allen Farmer, WC President, emergency authority to deal with facility infrastructure replacement and repair regarding drainage issues in the Doss Student Center. The issues will be repaired immediately with minimal impact to students, faculty and staff.

In other business the board:
- Approved the minutes from the March 21 board meeting.
- Approved the financial reports ending March 31.
- Approved sealed bids for science equipment and supplies.
- Approved sealed bids for cosmetology supplies and equipment.
- Approved the annual contract for the purchase of WC fleet vehicles.
- Approved budget amendment No. 3.
- Tabled action on the cultural enrichment transfer rate.

In his president’s report, Dr. Farmer:
- Recognized Duane Durrett, dean of fine arts, on his concert “It’s All About the Music” held in the Alkek Fine Arts Center on April 5.
- Congratulated WC agriculture students who recently won awards at the Texas Junior College Agriculture Association Sweepstakes Contest.
- Congratulated Jon Vandagriff on being selected as WC’s 2019 Alumnus of the Year and Dr. Molly Harris and Keith Loftis for being selected as distinguished alumni.
- Recognized Adam Finley, executive dean of student services, and Kay Landrum, executive director of student outreach and student success, and all those who volunteered to lead campus tours for 388 Weatherford High School juniors and seniors who visited WC on April 11.
- Recognized WC farm hand Moe Headrick on his recent wins at the Sunny Side Up Film Festival in Ardmore, Oklahoma, for his movie “Moon Crossing.”
- Announced the passing of Associate Degree Nursing Instructor Edna Garza-Escobedo.
- Announced the retirement of humanities instructor Jackie O’Neal.
