Based on a true story, when the Mexican Government outlawed Christianity in the 1920s, the people rose up to fight for religious freedom, resulting in the Cristeros War, which lasted for three years. Andy Garcia plays Enrique Gorostieta Velarde, a man who had no personal taste for religion himself but was nonetheless persuaded by the rebels to lead their cause as a General.
