This song was composed by Sharon Katz when Nelson Mandela passed away on December 5th, 2013. Sharon had the honor of meeting Mandela before he was elected to be South Africa's first democratically elected President on April 27th, 1994. She performed for his 75th birthday in Durban on July 18th, 1993. When Mandela told Sharon she embodied his ideal of a non racial Democracy, Sharon founded The Peace Train Project and movement designed to bring people of all races together to live together in a new South Africa. An integral part of all of The Peace Train projects and music since 1992, and Sharon's singing partner for 25 years, Nonhlanhla Wanda, collaborated with Sharon on this song and also joined The Peace Train Tour Across America in 2016 to help spread a message of peace and respect for all people. The Honorable Consul General of South Africa, Tula Nkosi, was in attendance at the New York Society For Ethical Culture, which was the first stop on the tour where this song was filmed. Clips from the final concert at the Washington Memorial are also included in this video. With special thanks to Marilyn Cohen, manager of The Peace Train, and to all of the musicians, singers and dancers on the tour as well as sponsors who enabled the project to take place.
