I remember this is a question I asked MANY times to DPT students when I was about to enter DPT school. Everyone has their own opinions, but being a MASTER PREPARER, this was my thought:
DPT school is hard as it is. Many accepted students anticipating school will prepare FOR THE WORST and start to freak out about what they could do to prepare for the rigor of DPT school.
Yes, DPT school is hard however, it is not impossible. DPT programs understand that incoming students are coming from a wide variety of stages in life (immediately after undergrad, totally different major, experienced working life and decided to come back, career change, etc).
SO THEY WILL NOT LOAD YOU UP AND TRY TO GET YOU KICKED OUT. That would be foolish of a DPT program to do that. However, you will start with the fundamental knowledge needed to build on for further DPT academics.
At APU, we started our first year off with gross anatomy, and clinical skills (biomechanics/basic PT skills). These classes were hard, but it is something you can absolutely get through WITHOUT prior studying.
Looking back, I am glad I did not study prior to starting school. I am super appreciative that I took a road trip and let me mind free, before it got locked up.
So.... should you study before entering DPT school? My answer: No. Go pursue your life's adventure and experience the things you want to do. When you start your classes, THEN you can study.
