A look at the caisson installation at 1400 W. Monroe in Chicago’s West Loop. Caissons are an integral part of a building’s foundation system. Caissons are often used when there are not any good bearing soils close to the ground level of a building or the building is too tall/big for standard foundation walls & footings. The caissons for 1400 W. Monroe will go down approximately 60 feet to achieve proper bearing for the building’s height & structural type. Once completed, 1400 W. Monroe will be home to a 7-story luxury condo building with 42 units.
