Former President Olusegun Obasanjo stated that the release of Nnamdi Kanu was not discussed when he met with the south-east governors on Tuesday. The south-east governors, under the south-east governors' forum, decided to meet with President Bola Tinubu regarding Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). Imo Governor Hope Uzodimma, the forum's chairman, mentioned plans to engage with the federal government on Kanu during their meeting in Enugu. Obasanjo, who visited the forum, clarified that his meeting focused on regional development, including security, infrastructure, and economic collaboration, and that Kanu's issue was not discussed. Kanu has been detained by the Department of State Services (DSS) since his 2021 extradition to Nigeria and faces charges of treasonable felony, with bail denied in May.
