Hi, I'm Doctor Marisa Weiss, president and founder of breastcancer.org. I'm also a practicing oncologist, and mom, and also a breast cancer survivor. So I'm happy to share information with you today that could help protect your life against breast cancer. Breast pain is a very common symptom for women of all ages, particularly women who are still menstruating on a regular basis. It's because the breast is a very active organ and it's sensitive to a lot of different changes in the body and also to the influence of things that you take in from your outside environment into your inside environment. What you're eating, what you're drinking, what you're breathing in, the medicines you're taking. And so breast discomfort, breast pain, breast aches, flickers of discomfort, women use different words to describe many of the same thing. Most of the time, breast pain is just aggravating, annoying, it doesn't mean anything bad or serious. Breast pain is often just related to changes in the inside environment of the breast tissue. Breast pain is not usually connected to a sign of breast cancer. But it is true that sometimes breast cancer may cause a symptom of pain in the breast. So if you develop a new type of pain or discomfort, it's in a particular area, it's not going away, it's persisting, or maybe even getting worse, and you're worried, don't be worried on your own. Make sure to call your breast cancer Doctor if you have one if you've had breast cancer. Or if you, if this is a new thing for you, contact your Gynecologist or your primary care Doctor or your Nurse Practitioner and say, I have breast discomfort, it's a new problem for me, it's persistent and maybe even getting worse, I'm concerned". Then just have it checked out. Usually it turns out to be nothing serious but you just want to make sure.
