St. Clare grew up in Assisi and from early in her life was devoted to Christ and His Church. She founded a monastic order for women in the Franciscan tradition. She defended her order, now known as the Poor Clares, against both physical and spiritual attack from outside agents. She was also named the Patron Saint of Television and, with St. Lucy, is considered a Patron Saint of eye disorders.
