Neutron radiography is a non-destructive imaging technique that allows researchers to peer beyond the veneer of age and damage to spy the tiniest of clues. It can also ferret out mere hints of contaminants, including pervasive pollutants. Penn State researchers used it to identify microplastics in water filtration samples. The red discs are filters, while the red specks are microplastics. Provided by Kenan Ünlü/Penn State.
