This video animation shows how engineers at NASA’s Michoud Assembly Facility in New Orleans connected the liquid oxygen tank with the intertank and the forward skirt to complete the forward join – or the forward part – of the core stage of NASA’s Space Launch System, America’s first deep space rocket to take humans beyond the Moon. Altogether, the structure makes up 66 feet of the total 212-foot-tall core stage. The completion of the forward join marks the beginning of the integration and the assembly of the SLS core stage by NASA and Boeing, the SLS prime contractor.
