Randy Newberg provides his opinion, yes, opinion, on the unnecessary need for a muzzle brake. Managing recoil is important to accuracy. Recoil can be managed with weight, recoil pad, load pressures, and most effectively by selecting a cartridge with less recoil.
Muzzle brakes are very damaging to hearing, not just for the shooter; some would say even more so for the bystander. If you feel the need to manage recoil with a muzzle brake, you may be over-gunned.
This video does not address suppressors, an entirely different topic for another day.
