I was granted access to the PS5 Beat software that enables the SSD slot and ordered the least expensive SSD that still met the minimum requirements. Its a Gen 4 rated at 5600 MB/Sec and the min calls for 5500. It works great and was only $300 vs $500 for the officially endorsed options. It works great! if far down the road a unique, new more advanced demanding game comes out that exceeds the PNY capability you now have 667GB of internal original memory that is max spec. There is a minimum speed for a reason. I'll rely on Sony techs and the 5500 MB/sec spec they published as good enough for me.
Update:
After posting this video I installed over 1TB of PS5 games on the PNY and all went well. Will update here again after I play a few and test the load times.
Update 2: Today I was able to test the load times in ratchet and clank a rift apart but this time it's installed on the PNY SSD... one of the most demanding and best uses of the SSD design. When you go though the warp holes its actually loading an entire new map... it was instantaneous just like it was with the OEM memory chips on the motherboard. while this is by no means scientific... it means you won't notice any difference between 7000 and 5600... at least not in current games.
Story on slower than 5500 MBsec SSD still work fine but I wouldn't go that low!
