Invocation:
The primordial Universal Mother is the primary causal and is alone inherent as the motive power in every atom of this universe in its diverse manifestations. She is highly a efficacious in eliminating all distress, tribulations and& fears and regenerating the forces of goodness. The curtain rises with an invocation to the cosmic Mother, who is the chastiser of sinners and the shelter for saints, sages, Gods and noble human beings.
Episode 1: GODDESS NIDHRAA DEVI
The great deluge at the time of Annihilation has devoured the whole earth. Lord Vishnu (the Universal Protector) is absorbed in trance to set the cycle of creation revolving again. Brahma, the God of creation who is born out of lotus which emerged from the navel of Lord Vishnu is challenged and terrified by the two demons Madhu and Kaitabha, who are also born from Maha Vishnu. Hearing the compassionate call of Brahma who is in crisis, the supreme Goddess incarnates as Nidhra Devi, comes out of Lord Vishnu and instructs Him to rid the demon off. She spreads Her 'Maya' (illusion) on the horrible demons. Maha Vishnu with His Chakraayutham, chops them off in a trice. By the grace of Nidhra Devi the fight is brought to an end and Brahma is rescued to carry on with creation, once again.
Episode 2: GODDESS MOHINI
Indra and other gods are driven out of the kingdom of heaven by the cruel and debase demons. They seek refuge in Lord Vishnu. On His advice, they churn the milky ocean with the assistance of demons to extract "Amrutham" for immortality. When the pot of divine nector emerges, the demons get the possession of it. Goddess Mohini, as an enchanting damsel enthralls the demons and gets the Amrutham for the gods, who then regain their power and prosperity.
Episode 3: MAHISHAASURA MARDHINI
As the demon, Mahishasura's atrocities become unbearable, gods propitiate Lord Maheswara, the God of destruction. A splendourous flame emanates from the "Thandava" of the divine Trinity viz. Brahma, Vishnu and Siva. It assumes a young and beautiful form of Goddess Durga. Pleased by the reverence and adoration of the gods, Kathyayani, who is the manifestation of Goddess Durga slays Mahisha and mitigates the sorrows of the gods.
Episode 4: CHAAMUNDI & MAHAA KAALI
Sumba and Nisumbha, the two powerful and ruthless demons inflict untold atrocities on the dwellers of the earth and heaven. The gods and the sages are unable to perform sacrifices and hence they are weakened. Having fled heaven, they are in a pitiable plight and plead divine Mother. She assures them of refuge. Chanda and Munda, the demon attendants are enamoured of Goddess's beauty and informs the Sumbha-Nisumbha brothers about the bewitching beauty. The demons put forward their proposal of marriage, Devi rejects and challenges them to a dual. She assumes nine forms and destroys all the commanders of the demon army. Dhoomralochanan, Chanda-Munda and the entire row of demon ministers and ambassadors are all doomed and exterminated. Furious Kali who emerges from the shadow of Chamundi drinks every single drop of blood that drips off from the wound of Rakthabeejan and sends him to the abode of death. Chamundi and Kali vanquish the wicked Sumbha and Nisumbha at the end.
Episode 5: SRI LALITHAMBIKA AS KAMESWARI
The celestials perform a grand sacrifice to ward off hurdles and obstacles created by the powerful demon Bhandasura. Sri Lalithambika appears from the flames of wisdom of the sacrifice and blesses them with Her grace. The splendourous wedding of Sri Maha Tripurasundari and Sri Kameswara takes place as a feast for the souls. She now becomes the invincible Lalitha Parameswari seated on Sri Chakra, rides the chariot with Vedas as four wheels, Purusharthas as four horses and a victorious flag on the top. She with Her army of other Devis slay the fierceful Bhandasura with "Kameswara" asthra and his entire allies.
Conclusion: SRI MAHAA SHODASI AS THE EMBODIMENT OF SERENITY
The divine refulgence and grace of Sri Maha Shodasi, the Goddess with sixteen syllables as Her mantra pervade every quarter and every creation of this universe. She along with Her 'Parivaram' (powers) graces the joyful Thillana versed with the prayer slokam chosen from the holy Sri Lalitha Sahasra Namam.
